holy crap, i'm old!!!

ENHS class of 1988: our 20 year high school reunion is this november!!!!! ye gods, i'm ancient!!!!!!!!! here's a photo of my very close friends and i in our "secret hideaway", a music practice room that our beloved band director let us use for study purposes. of course we used it as a place to hide from gym class more then anything. band geeks unite!!!!!! (pictured l-r are: todd, me, sladj, rachel, and katie in front.)

here's my most hated year book photo, from 7th grade (1982 or 83 i think...) i was really into the "prairie look"....... check out the feathered hair and lazy eye. i can't believe i never got a date to any of the dances!!!!

should i go to the reunion this year? i went to the 15th reunion, during the height of my "post WLS drinking wine" dark days, and acted like an idiot. do i go this year in my, "back to normal, weirdo, chubby gal, geek" mode? i think maybe so!!!!

You looked very cute. The 80s are a black hole for fashion. Seriously, when you are supposed to feather you hair so much it looks like a butt on the back of your head-- FASHION IS DEAD!! You were as fashionable as the rest of us, I would wager. Any Izod shirts you want to talk about? Neon? I used to wear the 80s make-up. I had Joan Collins make-up when I was 14. No wonder my catholic grade school teacher used to make me wash it off- scary!!

i was a failure at feathering my hair. it's too thin and i could never perfect the butt look (mentioned above) or the other variation: tight sausage-like curls on either side of the face.

i did rock the izod shirts, known as "prep shirts". i was the first one in our school to "prop" my collar, and i got totally harassed for doing it! 2 years later every dumbass jock in the school was propping their prep shirt collars!!!!!

i had moved on to neon by that time. neon pink with black leggings.

then i went into my diane keaton, annie hall phase. followed by jeans with pinstripes and a pink & grey fedora from chess king.

i loved boys in parachute pants. also from chess king, of course.

Boy, as if I wasn't feeling old enough- one of my staff told me she was surprised that I knew the words to songs on the radio (okay, I admit- I was singing along to Low). I asked her what she thought I listened to and she said, "uh, I don't know, classic rock?" I just shook my head and felt very, very sad . . . By the way, I really miss short sleeve shirts with shoulder pads, don't you? I though you were cool with your propped up collars!!! You were quite the trendsetter!! I missed the last reunion so maybe we should go. I went to the 10 year one and told Dennis Durkin I had had a crush on him in junior high. Silly, silly . . .

I'll go if you both go. We can sit in a dark corner watching everyone.... wondering who certain people are, commenting on how much they've changed. Or we get all dressed up, drive past the place and wave, then just go to dinner somewhere.

yeah, rachel and sladj were both wearing the short sleeves w/ shoulder pads. i, thankfully, knew enough to cut out the shoulder pads in all of my clothes. short stocky girls should never wear shoulder pads!!!!

sladj- is low a song or a band? i thought it was an indie rock band, but could be wrong. what are the kids listening to these days?

also, everyone had a crush on dennis durkin! he was super cute and freckled!!!!

rachel- i like your plan!!!!!!

Okay, "low" is a song by a lovely group called Flo Rida- need I say more??? They play it on 96.5 which the "young girls" in the office like to listen to. Haven't you ever heard "crank that?" Do you think U2 is considered classic rock these days?
Rachel- I like your idea too. Now that I think about it, that is what we did at the 15 year reunion-we drove past the bar everyone was at, couldn't find a place to park and Jeff said "do you really want to go in?" and we left. That was the end of that.

Sladj,
I know that music very well. I like to listen to it! Well, we have a few months to form a plan of action for the reunion. To go or not to go... we can decide later.

yeah, you both need to get out your old morrisey tapes and stop listening to that garbage!

and yes, U2 is considered classic rock. so are the smiths. we are ancient i tell ya!!!

also, i would love for the 3 of us (and our lovely significant others) to go to the dumb reunion. if only to make an appearance, see how everyone looks, laugh & giggle and then get the hell out.
