i read the news today, oh boy.......
another one of my literary heroes passed away, william styron. read his wiki entry here. he wrote one of my favorite memoirs, darkness visible, that gives a harrowing and all too real account of the debilitating effects of depression. i think he was one of the first authors to really discuss depression and bring it out in the open.
he's also another in the long list of authors i admire who fall under the catagory of drunken malcontents. folks like frederick exley, hunter s. thompson, charles bukowski and old papa hemmingway (uc freak's favorite!) why am i fascinated with those tortured, brilliant souls? who knows........
in other more mundane news, my sister updated her blog with some excellant halloween pics. my mom dons the afro wig and krunks out again!!!!
and finally, tomorrow starts a 4 day "mini-vacation". me and groundcat are gonna hang out, relax, and maybe go on a few road trips to see spooky stuff (like the witch's grave and melonhead huntin'.) lots of fun stuff that doesn't cost much. i'll post some pics if we see any ghosts or creepy melonhead kids out in the woods!

What about Ralph Ellison, Harriet Jacobs or Frederick Douglas? They all talk about depression and way before the 90s. Also, The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. The first three talk about its debilitating effects though more than Plath, though.

All I wants to know is- does the Sticky's Crunk Juice Recipe also feature sauerkraut?
