love means never having to say you're jennifer....

charlton

i've blogged about my first name before. "jennifer" was the most popular girl's name from 1970-1984. the theory is that the film "love story" caused the surge in jennifers. boring! so now, with the passing of charlton heston, (charlton was his mother's maiden name per wiki...) i thought i'd talk about my last name.

growing up, i remember changing schools a few times. we moved from wickliffe, OH to kentucky, back to wickliffe and then finally willowick. and in every school the teacher's pronounced my last name as "carlton". i'd get so annoyed. since when is the H in CH silent???

i remember hearing howard stern play a stuttering john interview with charlton heston. john asked him stupid questions and old chuck heston got pissed! it was funny to hear, and i'll never forget howard going off on heston, saying, "what kind of name is charlton? who the hell names their kid that? it's a stupid name!!!!"

side note: howard also once commented on twin strippers who made an appearance on his show. they were named jennifer & jennette, and he said, "what kind of idiots would name their kids jennette and jennifer? it's the dumbest thing i've ever heard!" (oh, i called my mom as soon as i got to work to tell her that howard stern thought she was an idiot! LMAO!!!!)

this band did a song we were all obsessed with back in my OSU days. "charlton heston/ put his vest on!" and i found the video!!!! here's another video by this obscure band. i love this song! "swing bottom, big bottom!!!!"

erin o'brien did a great heston impression a while back that is hilarious.

lisa ann also does an amazing interpretation of the final scene in "planet of the apes", but alas, it has not been captured on film. yet. i may need to plan a trip to canada just to get footage of her on the floor screaming about the "damn dirty apes!!!!!" (here's an old post that features a classic lisa ann "song & dance" routine, which must suffice until i capture her heston impression on camera.)

another side note: as a child i loved watching horror movies. even "the shining" and "the exorcist" didn't freak me out too badly. but "planet of the apes" scared the crap out of me. superhost played those "planet of the ape" movies every saturday afternoon and i avoided them like the plague.

side- side note: superhost has his own wiki entry! ain't that somethin'?

ok, what was i talking about? my name? charlton heston? yeah, he's passed away, otherwise known as dead. he was conservative and an NRA dumbass. he was in some crappy movies, he played moses, and he yelled "soylent green is people!", although i remember phil hartman's impression more then heston's actual performance.

yet another side note: phil hartman. yeah. dammit. i still miss him.

when my sister got married, i remember thinking, "i'm the last charlton in the family." now i really am the last charlton! well, except for the other people with the same last name. it's not all that uncommon. and there's a football team in the UK called charlton, named after a city. so really, what's the big deal with the name?

and is there a point to this post? i'm guessing the answer is not, not so much.

Dude, my sister had nightmares (in the day) on Planet Of The Ape Saturdays with Superhost.

I loved the Charlton (cried when I saw he died)!!!

At least you have a semi-legacy :)

whitey- i need to blog about the time i was married on the playground in 2nd grade. it ended badly and we were divorced by naptime.

sue- quite a few kids were freaked out by superhost. i never understood his outfit. he was like a sloppy, overwieght superman with an apparent drinking problem!
