we lost one of our pack....

i think most of our friends and family have heard the sad news, that caesar passed away friday night. i've been through this before (with dixie, miles, maggie, gus, shadow, jack...) but i forgot how much it hurts. we're grieving and trying to get through it. that's all. we did "the right thing" for old caesar, and it was "his time" to go... it still hurts. but life goes on. cleo is up on the love seat, licking the cushions for some reason. i'm yelling at her to stop, while griffin climbs up on the couch with dan. life goes on...

click here to see a really cool slide show that groundcat put together.

and here's something to make us laugh a little.....

I can't think of anything to I haven't said already. I wish I could just hug away you and dan's heartache. I wish there was a way I could siphon the heartache out of you guys and take it on myself.

Every time I see his mug or read about it, I get weepy again. I'd full-out cry, but I don't really know how to let that happen about anything in life. If I did, it would certainly be over the loss of a pet.

My heart aches for you two.

I'm sorry, hon...

It's been said I care more for dogs than I do for most people... and it's entirely true.

Sorry for your loss. : (

Caesar wll go to the place they go and make all the other dogs jealous with tales of his warm and cozy crib and the two large-headed creatures who bade his every whim.

The other dogs will express doubt and disbelief, but Miles and Dixie will bounce in and have Ceasar's back on that. Looks of dog awe will result.

It will be 97% good and still hurt like hell.

I ended up reading this again at work and looking at his pics.... now I'm sobbing like a baby... but he's worth it.
Casear was a true gentleman and will be missed very much.

yeah, i'm sobbing at my desk too, scaring my poor new office mate. i told him to expect random crying from me all day.

i was thinking about what a "true gentleman" caesar was. then i also remembered the time he got up on the counter and ate 1/2 of a red velvet cake, then wiped his face on an antique quilt.

ok, now giggling and crying.

i like to think about what stacy said above, and him telling the other dogs about the time he ate the cake. they'll all high-five him and then maggie will say, "that's nothing....let me tell you about the time i ate a tv remote, a pop can, and 2 couch pillows in the same week!"

He's a gentleman who knew how to act like a big kid :)

i was just thinking about the cake! and if i'm not mistaken, maggie ate an entire cake on more than one occasion. (at least 2 that i'm aware of)LOL!
caesar will be missed, but at least you have lots of good memories.
ps- i made the mistake of clicking on the 'pet obituaries' under topics. jesus.

ahh now I went and clicked on pet obituaries too. and now I'm starting to think about my dog Jack. Been about a year and a half since we had to say good bye to him. I remember laying on my stomach on the floor and how he would try to get at my face, and I'd bury it in my arms and he'd start digging at my arms. and how he would flip out like a ninja whenever he saw a UPS truck go down the street.

jnet- yes, i put a warning on the "pet obit" link, ya dummy!

i like the idea that we use this blog to say goodbye to our animal friends. i mean, they are part of our family, and this silly blog seems like a good place to remember the good times, the cake they stole, etc...

plus i like the idea that miles, dixie, etc... have their photos online forever.

chris- i was looking for the blog post when i linked to your post about jack.

p.s. i've seen my friend david flip out over the UPS truck too!

Thanks for adding him. Maybe Jack will show Cesar around, show him where to find the really good squeaky toys whose squeaker's don't break :)

This is sad and hilarious because i got a call at work today because Tim apparently flipped a Ninja on UPS AND the Gas meter reader today.

It's the price we pay for loving 'em the way that we doo, oohh. oohh.

Caesar sounds like one of the good ones.
