the hackathon- day 3

here is a facebook folder chock full of photos i've taken over the last 3 days. we've been working at an amazing facility (shaker launch house). i've had fun with my awesome coworkers, and we've gotten so much work done. but i'm missing the husband and dogs and can't wait to be home.

of course it's right back to work monday morning... so basically i'll be working 12 days in a row without a break. thankfully i can work from home for a day or 2.

it's such a beautiful fall day. i need to be off the computer and out with dan taking pics of fall leaves and old cemeteries!!!

hackathon!!!

so starting this evening, i am attending a "hackathon" for work. everyone is going out to dinner after work, and the right to the shaker launch house to spend the entire weekend coding and developing (hopefully) awesome new software.

here's a great definition of a hackathon.

"A hackathon is an event when programmers meet to do collaborative computer programming. The spirit of a hackathon is to collaboratively build programs and applications. A hackathon refers to a specific time when many people come together to hack on what they want to, how they want to - with little to no restrictions on direction or goal of the programming."

most of our company is meeting this weekend to try and produce some amazing new technology. it feels exciting to be a part of this. if we meet our year end goals during this weekend, we will be rewarded with the entire thanksgiving week off.

so i'm working about 20 hours extra this week. i will really miss dan and the dogs. at least i get to come home and sleep in my own bed and say hello to the creatures i live with.

i still love this job. i work with amazingly talented, smart people who are also a lot of fun. i get to work from home 1-2 days a week. i have a great boss and and amazing QA team.

so no bitching. i'm going to do everything i can to make this hackathon a great experience!

go team! (hehehehehehe... i totally drank the koolaid at this job.)

to all the nerds i've loved before......

i was having a conversation with a coworker (and fellow nerd) & we started discussing the many types of nerds, and i realized i have dated many nerds...

so I created a little spreadsheet to track the nerds i've dated.  some of these categories are for one person (like the comic book nerd who loved playing magic cards) while others cover more then 1 person.  i think most of the guys i've dated would be considered music geeks.

of course i ended up marrying the guitar nerd who loves horror movies & is a huge music geek.  and together we share our love of music, horror movies and dogs.  i don't geek out on the guitar.  i'm more of a blogging, photography, omnichord nerd!

we went to our 3rd or 4th horror convention today. cinema wasteland in 2006 was one of our first dates. we're nerds. today's group featured these folks.

horror conventions are odd. definitely good people watching.

soup nerd

y'all know how much i love soup. and i know "no one cares what you ate for lunch", but my gosh, this "thai & lemongrass chicken noodle soup" from cafe 56 kicks major arse!!!!!

and more important then soup: go check out erin o'brien's blog. she's good stuff, and is now taking questions to be possibly answered in her "rainy day woman" free times column. i'm gonna ask a bunch of inappropriate questions!!! well, i will, after i finish my soup. (fyi- soup is so much easier then salad for an OCD girl!)

i've spent my entire lunch break on google looking at interesting soup images. me = soup nerd!

p.s. not only am i totally watching "rock of love- season 2", i got tricked into watching "celebrity rehab"! (when i say "tricked" i mean that i found myself planted on the couch with a diet vernor's and my groundcat boyfriend, flicking channels on a sunday night. we ended up going back and forth between "puppy bowl" & "celeb rehab". it was a sweet & salty mix of fluffy cuteness and sweaty grand mal seizures.)

ok, all you cute & super sweet computer geeks, give me a hand! really, you developers are looking so handsome today! is that a new world of warcraft tshirt you're wearing? it brings out the (insert color of your eyes here) in your eyes! anyways.....i was wondering if you (insert name of computer geek here) could help me adjust this layout. i like the basic layout, i just want to stretch the width out a bit. there's too much wasted space on the right and left, ya know?

camera nerd.......

this new camera groundcat got me for xmas is amazing. i managed to take almost 600 photos in 2 days! granted, i am experimenting, playing around with settings and just having a blast taking a shitload of pics!!! it's amazing how much i love canon cameras. i grew up using a canon AE1, and found that within 5 minutes of playing around with the new camera, i knew exactly how to use it. it's just so intuitive for me, i guess, the way they set up canon cameras. anyways, this one got great reviews and i am astounded at what a difference it is from older digital cameras i've been trying to get used to. i know, i am a camera nerd, and i feel like i got my photography joy back with the new camera!

i blogged already today, but i guess i am feeling chatty. more chatty then usual. i posted a ton of pics to my photoblog, so go check them out. i am using the photoblog to keep in touch with coworkers, send pics to distant family, without any links to this blog. i am trying to keep it "tame" and really just add photos and not a lot of writing. i even removed comments, so it's looksy only!
