This is one of my favorite Henry Darger painting. It's from The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What is known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinnian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion. He worked on the paintings and story his entire life. He also wrote The History of My Life, a book that spends 206 pages detailing his early life before veering off into 4,672 pages of fiction about a huge tornado called "Sweetie Pie."

the vivian girls are indeed wrapped in rugs. i found out about this artist on wikipedia. i was looking up info on "outsider art" (which is artwork by the mentally ill or untrained.)

henry darger fascinates me. his life story, and the theories of what the stories meant is so bizarre. and the artwork itself is amazing.

when you post anonymus, you should sign your damn name. this has to be cathy or my mom.

One of the best aspects of Darger's painting is the jarring perspective that would result when he would trace children from ad circulars because he had a hard time drawing the human body.

It gives these horrible scenarios a dare I say JAUNTY look. The kids are wrapped up dead in carpets, or have entrails hanging out, but they're happy to be there, and they even remembered that Easter Bonnets are on sale at Woolworths!

Die with your hat and short pants on, kids. That's what Angus Young would do.
