ok, for all my ranting and bitching about the situation on the gulf coast, what can i do? i can try to get people to be understanding so that maybe they will help or send money. but what can i do? i don't have money to send and i have a job i can't leave to volunteer to help. some people are offering housing if they have an extra room. i would do that if i had the space. maybe some of you reading this would consider providing housing for someone for a few months..... i am going to see if i can at least provide a home for a few small dogs. if they can get them here i can take care of them til the families are ready to take them back. i am contacting the humane society as soon as i post this.
do you know that the bush administration had data citing a new orleans flood as the most likely natural disaster, and they subsequently cut their relief funding to 44%?
also, the airshow is going on this weekend in cleveland. i have fighter jets zooming over my house since i am so close to downtown. i don't think war planes are entertainment. and i don't understand why they wouldn't cancel so they could help in the relief efforts.......

yes, i am aware, as was the bush administration. as were the city officials. why didn't they try and bus the poor folks out? fly them out? whatever it took!

"The Red Cross was ready, just got off the phone with one of their officials. They had a vanguard, Brit, of trucks with water, food, hygiene equipment, all sorts of things ready to go, where? To the Superdome and the convention center. Why weren't they there? The Louisiana Department of Homeland Security told them they could not go. [...] The state's own agency devoted to the state's homeland security. They told them, you cannot go there. Why? The Red Cross tells me, that state agency in Louisiana said, look, we do not want to create a magnet for more people to come to the Superdome or the convention center. We want to get them out. So at the same time local officials were screaming, where's the food, where's the water, the Red Cross was standing by ready, the Louisiana Department of Homeland Security said you can't go."
That's not the only thing that Louisiana screwed up. Did you know that without the governor's approval that the national guard cannot operate inside the state, even for rescue missions? Also, did you know that only the governor can legally announce a force evacuation anywhere in her state?
