dog training thoughts...
everyone likes to quote caesar milan (the dog whisperer.) i've never been a big fan of his. i don't like the aggressive methods, shoving the dog down to show "dominance", or pinch collars. i think there are ways to keep dog training 100% positive. no yelling or pushing. no pinching the neck with prongs.
i found this website created to :"bring together people who oppose cruel, violent or bullying methods of training or rehabilitating dogs; also those who question or challenge pack leadership, dominance theory, dog-as-wolf and other outdated ideas."
i really like the idea that a dog can be trained in a positive way. we've done a little training with the clicker and it works great indoors, teaching gilly to sit or come when called. i found a new harness to help her to stop pulling on the leash on walks.
i also like the "nothing in life is free" program. we've had gilly do a "sit" or "down" command just when we feed her or let her out.
in the end, we just have to try new things and do the work. i want a well behaved dog that has fun!
