dogs...

green porno- bees!!!!!!!!!

beautiful sunrise in our back yard.  nice way to start the day...

gilly managed to destroy a spare dog bed that was next to her crate.  she was in the crate, so she did this through the bars.  stunning....

look at these dogs beds!  sock monkeys rule!!!  they are too small for our dogs.  of course they'd be the pefect size for the world's smallest horse...

old school random....

 1.  i hate bees.

2.  i saw the most horrible movie when i was getting my nails done last week.  if you can get through this paragraph description from wiki, you'll have the same headache i did after watching the damned movie!

Whittier arrives at the fictional California State College hoping to join the national champion varsity cheerleading team. She meets up with her friend from cheerleading camp, Monica, and they're both impressive at the tryouts. Head cheerleader Tina is ready to ask them to join the team, but Dean Sebastian goes a step further, telling Tina that Whittier will be the next head cheerleader. This angers Tina's pal Marni, who had the position staked out, but Tina goes along with the plan, taking Whittier under her wing. Whittier meets Derek, a campus deejay who immediately takes a shine to her. But Tina is very demanding and controlling. She warns Whittier that Derek is not the type of boy she should be dating. Monica is bothered by Tina's meddling, but Whittier momentarily lets her cheerleading ambition get the better of her, and breaks it off with Derek. Then Tina, upset with Monica's sassy attitude, forces Whittier to choose between her friendship and the squad. Whittier and Monica get fed up and quit the team, but Whittier's school spirit cannot be suppressed. With Monica's help, she gathers up the outcasts from the drama club, the dance club, and other groups that have lost their funding and forms a ragtag squad of her own, determined to battle the varsity squad for a spot at the national championship

3.  here's a venn diagram showing the differences between a nerd, geek, etc... (i think i'm more of a weirdo then a geek or nerd)

4.  i really want to catch an episode of isabella rossellini's "green porn" series. it sounds delightful

i want a tiny horse!!!

seriously, how friggin' cute is this horse?  he's only 6 pounds!  he could fit in my purse!!!

nashville trip diary- part 3 (the rest of it)

a totally undoctored pic of us at a restaurant

pretty guitar at the country music hall of fame

another undoctored pic of us

i love weird old record stores!

and i love guitars that say "bacon" on them!

we saw a dog that reminded us of griffin.  his owner had just given him a mohawk.

this pic is from lower broadway and sort of sums up the whole area

no, i think this pic sums it up nicely... yes, we had a good time and saw some cool stuff, and we heard some amazing music.  great vacation!

and now i am happy to be home with my "man cuff" wearing husband, crazy dogs, dirty laundry & the rest of it.  yes, happy to be home....

nashville trip diary- part 2 (the music & the ryman)

the ryman.... i was so overwhelmed just walking in. there were huge crowds all around. we later found out they were all going to see bon jovi at the theater across the rode, LOL!

the church pews killed my back. we sat next to some idiot who screamed "play the night they drove old dixie down!!!" for the entire show. i forget how dumb & rude people can be at shows.

but the show itself was wild. dave rawlings band played first. he & gillian are so skinny! he played 5 songs and it was just... i cried from the moment they started playing! it just sounded so good, and we were 1/2 way back but it looked like the stage was so close.

levon's band is huge. they came out next. he's 70 and has battled throat cancer as everyone knows, so i think people were a little nervous. he came out and looked so small and weak. then he got behind the drums and just beat the shit out of them for the next 3 hours.

his band has a horn section, and the baritone sax/ tuba player (howard johnson) was the highlight of the band. he even played tuba on "miss ohio" with gillian welch at one point!

levon sang a few songs and it i got goosebumps. his voice has changed, but it's still strong.

his daughter sings blues (the loud, screaming kind) and it's not my cup of tea, so i could have done without the blues numbers she sang. but it's nice to see him having a ball watching his daughter sing.

he also played mandolin on a few songs, and at one point jumped up and did a crazy dance that was hilarious and made the crowd go wild.

other guest musicians: sam bush (amazing mandolin player who took lead vocals on "cripple creek", one of my favorite songs of the night.) emmy lou harris was the unannounced special guest. she did "evangeline" with the band (like she did in the film "the last waltz") and i got the goosebumps. rodney crowell, some guy from the nitty gritty dirt band, and buddy miller also came out to do songs. buddy miller is a songwriter i've heard of, but didn't know much about. he's an old guy in a porkpie hat, but when he sang he just belted it out. his song was another favorite moment for me.

they played for over 3 hours. there were moments so beautiful that i cried, and songs that bored me. there were awkward moments (rodney crowell seemed distracted and sang at the wrong moment a few times.) they did some songs by the band, some of levon's songs from recent albums, & tons of cover songs.

the thing that struck me most was that everyone on stage (sometimes close to 20 musicians) were having so much fun. everyone was smiling and excited to be playing. you could feel the joy. everyone on that stage knew how lucky they were to be there, and they seemed to just love every minute of it.

totally worth the trip. we went back the next day for the backstage tour. an old guy named buddy did the honors. he walked us around the dressing rooms and explained all about the ryman. he told us about seeing hank williams play, how nice minnie pearl really was, and how his boss got him a dozen donuts every satuday night after the show. he talked about how the theater used to smell like fried chicken (people brought picnic baskets) and how everyone used fans to keep cool.

all of his stories ended up with everyone dying, houses burning down & people being killed. but it was entertaining!

we also went to grimey's record store, which is a little out of the way, but again, worth the trip.  bands like the black keys and gillian welch have played there, right in the middle of the stacks of albums.  i love just looking at old albums, remembering the artwork from when i was a kid and a gatefold album meant lots to look at.

we also hit record stores on lower broadway (ernest tubbs and another i can't recall the name...) when we got home dan brought out his turntable and we've been listening to albums all week.  old school!

nashville trip diary- part 1 (plane & hotel)

am i the only person who takes photos out the airplane window?  i hate flying, and the trip to nashville involved 3 airports and 2 planes.  at least dan gave me the window seat so i could take pics.

we stayed at the union station hotel.  fancy pants.  but a bit disconcerting as well.  the room was small with super high ceilings and a wall of windows facing the lobby.  i felt very short in this room.  shorter then usual.

the lobby was so beautiful.  every time i walked in i was once again shocked at how stunning it all was.

there were so many little nooks in the hotel, little corners with settings like this.  the furniture seemed well worn, in a good way.

did i tell you that the ceiling was high?

the best part of the hotel was the stained glass.  i tried to get photos but i don't think i did it justice.

this makes me want to take another stained glass class someday.

the hotel had a fancy restuarant (we had breakfast there once) and a great little martini bar.  the "people watching" was good.  lots of people in town for bon jovi, the marathon, etc... the bartender was a chatty older lady who made a great pink martini & told us all about the mexican jewlery she was wearing.  we met an older gentleman (a doctor of some kind) who recommended a great pizza place for us to try.

and room service was good.  i LOVE room service!

final nashville pics

click here to see all the photos i took with my actual camera (and not the crappy iphone.)  nothing has been tagged or commented on.  maybe i'll do that later.

i'm so happy to be home.  now i can go back to posting pics of the dogs, sunsets!

leaving nashville...

I am typing this on my iPhone from the Nashville airport.

I hate airports. I wore my new purple sandals and had to go barefoot through security. gross.

Nashville was cool. the hotel was beautiful & odd. the show at the ryman was magic.

the 100 year old church pews at the ryman are not comfortable, but the acoustics are wonderful.

ok, this typing on my phone is hurting my hands & we might get to board the plane soon!

I'm going to read the new HST book on the ipad kindle. I love reading books again thanks to the ipad

making art with a crappy iphone camera and a $4 app...

i really enjoy the challenge of taking interesting pics with cheap cameras.  my iphone camera is the worst, so i enjoy trying to get good pics.  i love the lo-mob app because it lets me do trippy things with boring pics.

the original weird iphone pic:
that would make a great album cover!  maybe i need to make an album.... yes, an album of omnichord cover songs!

April 13, 2010

it's odd, the things i find on my iphone camera... i snapped this one over the weekend, in one of my attempts to capture the dogs playing.  it's kind of creepy.  i should write a whole blog post about the media, celebrities who cheat, our countries obsession with pro athletes, etc... but i'm not fully awake and no one reads blogs anymore!

:)
