a new poll!!!!

i am listening to music at work and a favorite song has me teary-eyed. so the new poll for this week is: what songs make you cry? ok, if you're a guy, what songs make you sad (cuz i am told boys don't cry.)

my list:

  • puff the magic dragon (fuck that jackie paper!)
  • yellow -coldplay (if a guy played this for me i would get so sappy and bawl like a baby)
  • top of the world- dixie chicks (so depressing)
  • when you fall in love- bjork (so goofy and wonderful, i cried when i saw the video on MTV out of pure joy)
  • any kind of marching band music
  • i hope that i don't fall in love with you/ waltzing matilda- tom waits

ok, so i'm a big cry baby. so tell me your favorite sad songs!

someone we all should have heard of....

jane jacobs died this week, and this is the first time i've heard of her. but she did amazing work in trying to get city planners to use a more humanitarian approach, and create cities for people (and not cars.) i wish we had her around to help revive my neighborhood.

her about her here.....

spiderman is dead to me.....
as most everyone knows, the new spiderman movie is being filmed downtown over the next few weeks. everyone i work with has seen some kind of action on the street outside the building (car crashes, spidey running down the street) except me. everytime i go down to the street i see a bunch of people loafing around smoking cigs and a few crabby production crew members trying to get people out of the street. at this point no one will go down to the street with me, since i am apparently a spidey jinx. whatever spiderman, ya rat bastard!

(the above pic was provided by my friend monte, who sees spiderman every other damn day!!! no, i am not bitter at all.....)

to blog or not to blog.....

ok, so i write about a lot of stuff on here, and i mentioned the whole online dating thing and a possible "date". everyone wants to know how it went, but i don't want to say to much and jinx anything. plus i might give this guy my blog address someday, so i need to keep it simple.

we met for coffee, had great conversation that carried into dinner. he's funny and smart, and seems to think the same of me. the waitress kept saying what a "cute couple" we were, and i wanted to tell her, "i just met this guy 2 hours ago, but thanks!"

to sum it up; he is so NOT hideous, and he doesn't think i am a total freak. we'll see what happens (and what i write about.) just stop bein' nosey!!!

April 25, 2006

i'm flippin' out!!!

not really, i just wanted to use this image again.

good news: dixie is doing so much better. she's got a little of her spark back. zak baked a loaf of bread the other night and she went wild for it. i've never seen her so excited about bread. but with her stomach problems, i think it's good for her.

and i have my first "date" from the internet dating thing. i've only been on the website since sunday and i've gotten "winked" at 5 times and 2 emails. i think the ratio of men to women is a little skewed, which is good for me! the guy is my age and seems very funny and smart, so i am sure there's something terribly wrong with him. i'll file a full report tomorrow.

April 23, 2006

be afraid.......
i have taken the plunge and signed up for online dating. i am trying match.com and an interesting dating site for pet lovers only. i figure my odds are better starting with a pet lover since i have a few pets of my own. yeah, i said "a few"!!!

p.s. isn't this picture horrible??? i'm gonna find a guy to wearing matching tshirts and paint hearts on the damn wall!!!

April 22, 2006

what's everyone so sad about???
well, it looks like the 1/2 a box of kleenex i went through was premature. dixie came home today!!! she's definetly not out of the woods yet, but she got better last night. dr. bedi told me yesterday we'd know today which way things would go. she suprised everyone this morning by hopping out of her cage and eating a whole can of food. she's keeping the food down and no more bleeding.

when i got to the vet, i saw the sparkle back in her eyes for the first time since she got sick. she even jumped up on me! when i brought her in the other day i had to carry her, and today she jumped up in the jeep all on her own.

she's still a very sick dog and it will takes weeks to recover. and i know she could get worse again. so we'll just play it by ear and have fun.

now i need to get off the computer and rub this dog's bell!

April 21, 2006

not so good.....
dixie's not doing so good. i noticed she was sick on tuesday (lethargic and not eating.) the vet said to keep an eye on her and by thursday morning it was bad. she's got acute pancreatitis, either from eating something poison, or possibly just old age. it's touch and go. she's not responding to medicine and we have 1 last hope to stop the internal bleeding. we'll know tomorrow if the steroids work.

i've been crying off and on for the last few days, and it's so damn sad, but it's also ok. whatever happens, she's had a great few years. this month is the 3 month anniversary of my adopting her, and she's been spoiled every day. when i got her 3 years ago she was sick and misdiagnosed with cushings. they gave her 1 to 2 years at best. so now it's been 3 and i've loved her every day. i'll know tomorrow if we have more time, or if it's time to let the old girl go. until then... we laugh, we cry, and i just ordered a pizza.

btw- that photo above is the first photo we ever took of her. david took it on his cell phone at my mom's, and she's smiling!!!! we've been so lucky to have her these last few years.

April 19, 2006

the horrible photography of d. lowell r.
david is a spy.........
i like david's new chair...
we're all really creepy.......
more bunnies on the blog!!!!!!!!

"mama, can we keep mr. bunny? pleeeeaaase?????"
"no george. you won't remember to take care of him and i'll end up feeding him and cleaning his cage!"
"please, i wanna keep mr. bunny! i will hug him and squeeze him and call him george!!!"
"but george, that's your name."
"oh.....i thought my name was incompetent asshole? anyways, please let me keep him! he's so pretty and furry and i think he's got a head full of jelly beans! i'm gonna hit him with a nu-clear bomb and get me some jelly beans!!!"

p.s. speaking of easter, my photo album is updated with some pics of our creepy easter at david's....

April 18, 2006

read the article, giant bunnies are real!

April 17, 2006

i am so NOT gonna watch this show!!!!!!!!
i saw the commerical and almost got sucked in. "a contemporary, heartwarming ensemble show about a group of supportive friends in various stages of romantic relationships and friendships living in los angeles." brian's 34 and still single, while all his friends have paired up.

yeah, i am NOT gonna watch this gay ass show!!!!!!!!

jennette has taken the craziest pic of hank yet. i swear she could have her own gallery show! "the disturbing life of mean, fat hank...." she's got more pics on her blog from the weekend festivities. this pic is the worst EVER!

April 16, 2006

how many remotes do you really need???? (i found more remotes in his bedroom after i took the pic.) david hosted sunday dinner in his kick ass bachlor pad with the view of the lake. we had fun and hopefully jennette and mike will update their blogs with pics!

April 13, 2006

BEFORE..................................and now AFTER!!!!!

see what being an ice head has done to jennette??? a shocking transformation.....good thing zak and i are getting ready to perform an intervention!

just kidding! jennette has lost a bunch of weight and we're all real proud of her. as george at the group home used to say, "good job monkey!!!"

April 12, 2006

it's lonely in lockdown....
but i do have access to email (work and hotmail), so write dammit!!!!

(above disturbing image once again provided by rachel. the girl ain't right!)

April 11, 2006

this is really amazing....
something really good in the news

when i lived in columbus, i worked with homeless folks and some of that time was spent at a battered women's shelter. i heard so many stories about women staying with abusers only because they were afraid to leave their dogs and cats behind. a sad fact is that most abusers also target the pets. so this new law in maine will help. maybe other states will start adopting the same law!

April 10, 2006

my fav.......
somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence.
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you always open petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully, mysteriously)her first rose

nothing that we are to perceive in this world equals the power of your intense fragility:

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens; only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

(e.e. cummings- my inspiration for never using caps!)
"Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash." ~ Leonard Cohen
i just found out that april is national poetry month. i have many friends who write poetry, as i do. i have poets that i love and can quote them off the top of my head (e.e. cummings, bukowski, etc...) since i started this blog i have considered posting some of my own poetry, but this is a tough crowd!

well from now until the end of the month, i am once again in "QA lockdown". i will not have access to a phone the internet for the most part. i won't have a lot of time to keep up with the blog since the hours might go up to 60 hours each week. so i thought maybe for the next month, i could post poems. some of my own and any you brave souls might want to submit. or maybe i'll just post some of my favorite poems by others. who knows???

if anyone is interested, email me a poem of your own, or one by someone else that you like. you can include lyrics to songs. (leonard cohen is a musician AND a poet in my book!) if anyone is brave enough to send me a poem of their own (i can even post them as anonymus), i will give out a prize! (um, yeah, i don't know what kind of prize yet....) poems can be funny or serious (and they don't have to rhyme.) hell, i'll even print a dirty limmerick!

April 9, 2006

lucy keeps hank out of the bedroom (sneak attack!)
hank hanging out in his, i mean zak's room.
first kareoke, now this.....
i went bowling out on the west side and had a great time. i got the lowest score out of 10 people, and had to tell everyone the story of how i used to take the clients at the group home bowling and i'd lose every game. nothing like having a van full of retarded folks laughing at you for sucking at bowling.

i call my bowling style "idiot savant" since i go from gutter balls to strikes, with nothing in between. i'm the rainman of bowling!!!

and on a sad note, i must make an announcement: i was wrong about something. i was wrong and vern was right. whatever......

April 8, 2006

guitar hero battle!!!!!!!!!

zak & copax duel while jennette ROXX OUT!!!

hank's got a rather large ass (i'm just saying!)

mike and i prefer to sit when we play, because we're much more "serious" musicians

griffin had a good time as always....
holy crap! what's going on in the next room?????
it's the battle of the guitar heroes!!! check out the pics on my photo blog!!!!!

April 7, 2006

some people give me hope.....

"On Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at a hearing on the proposed Constitutional Amendment to prohibit gay marriage, Jamie Raskin, professor of law at AU, was requested to testify.

At the end of his testimony, Republican Senator Nancy Jacobs said: "Mr. Raskin, my Bible says marriage is only between a man and a woman. What do you have to say about that?"

Raskin replied: "Senator, when you took your oath of office, you placed your hand on the Bible and swore to uphold the Constitution. You did not place your hand on the Constitution and swear to uphold the Bible."

The room erupted into applause."

(and NO, zak, this does not mean i am a lesbian! i am just a fan of keeping church and state seperate. duh!)

April 6, 2006

out of all the monkey pics rachel has sent me, and she has sent a ton, this one is the freakiest.

i have nothing new to report, or nothing i care to discuss on my blog. gosh, don't be so nosey all the time!

while my blog is boring today, pixiechick & my sister have some funny photos up. today i slack and ride the coat tails of others.....

April 5, 2006

the polish kick ass!!!

i know in the past we had our "anti-german" debates, so today i thought i'd say something positive about a nationality. my new roomie (of polish descent) has filled the freezer with all kinds of meat, including a ton of keilbasa. woo hoo!!! of course this leaves no room for my lean cuisines. maybe this is karma telling me not to diet? i mean, first a cheese cake, and now this?

the polish gave us sausage and peirogies, polka and my step dad. then there's charles bukowski, roman polanski, and stanley kowalski. there's something about those boy's with at "ski" at the end of their names....

in other news, a shocking development on the work front: we are being given the next 2 saturdays off. so i am down to 50 hour weeks and an actual weekend free. what am i going to do with all this new found free time???

April 3, 2006

my name is girl.......
i think i might hate this show and all it's karma BS, but i had a total earl experience at the grocery. karma gave me a cheesecake!!!!

i was in line at the grocery, noticing how rude people are. the lady in front of me didn't put the divider stick down for me, and never said thank you to the cashier. well, while i was noticing how rude she was being, i didn't notice someone behind me, waiting for ME to put the divider down! i felt like such a jerk! it hit me that instead of standing around noticing the rude shit people do, i should just ignore it and keep trying to be more polite. i'll be polite of out spite!!!

the lady ahead of me left and i followed closely behind. well, when i got out the door i saw the fancy newyork cheesecake i had noticed in her cart on the ground. i knew then what to do. i picked it up and looked for her so i could return it. and when i saw she had already left, i knew it was a gift from karma for realizing i was being rude earlier! and because i tried to return it first (even though she was a bitch who didn't deserve a nice cheesecake), karma said "good job!"

p.s. my photo blog has been updated (kareoke pics included.) go look!!!
this is for you, mom!!!!!
"Big Bottom" by Spinal Tap

The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin'
That's what I said
The looser the waistband, the deeper the quicksand
Or so I have read

My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo
I'd like to sink her with my pink torpedo

Big bottom, big bottom
Talk about bum cakes, my girl's got 'em
Big bottom drive me out of my mind
How could I leave this behind?

I met her on Monday, twas my lucky bun day
You know what I mean
I love her each weekday, each velvety cheek day
You know what I mean

My love gun's loaded and she's in my sights
Big game is waiting there inside her tights, yeah

Big bottom, big bottom
Talk about mud flaps, my girl's got 'em
Big bottom drive me out of my mind
How could I leave this behind?

(for some reason, this song makes my mom incredibly angry, which means i have to sing it to her every so often. here ya go mom!!!!)
"Poll: Most Open to Letting Immigrants Stay"

i'm on my lunchbreak and reading the news online. this headline grabbed my attention. because unless i'm mistaken, the majority of those being polled aren't living on a reservation or part of a tribe. here in cleveland, most of us have family who only got off the boat a few generations ago. of course even then we weren't always kind to immigrants. my grandpap (my mom's dad who came here from yugoslavia as a child) had to explain to me what "DP" meant. {it meant "displaced person", the name you got when you arrives at ellis island, and wasn't a nice thing to call someone.}

with the huge pro-immigration rallies happening and congress about to vote, it just has me wondering what it means to live in this country, and how we treat the people who want to live here.

and yes, i called him "grandpap", it's not a typo! hahahahaha!!!!!
